Gardens and green cover in an area act as carbon sink. Hence, it is wise to encourage green cover because it absorbs the pollution and turns it into breathable air. In 2012, we witnessed no attention being paid towards the natural resource.
2016, our objective was to increase Porvorim’s green cover in order to benefit the people of Porvorim constituency. Besides, it also provided the citizens a place to spend some quality time with the family.
Initiatives under ‘Green Porvorim’:
1) Open spaces were restored
2) New open spaces are being developed
3) Kranti nagar garden is being developed as a model garden for the constituency
4) Drives to increase the green cover have been undertaken
5) Environmental awareness programs have been organised for schools and community
6) Preserving and increasing the green cover has been a priority
