Farmers in Porvorim i.e. under the Village Panchayat of Socorro, Salvador-do-Mundo and Penha-de-Franca were having common problems like cattle’s ruining the fields, water entering from the rivulets, shortage of manpower etc. To promote farming Shri. Rohan Ashok Khaunte, Chairman Porovrim Yuva Welfare Trust took an initiative last year in February to invite the farmers under clubs and to revive farming. A Farmer’s Melawa was held and the advantages of forming clubs, utilisation of modern farming machinery, techniques used by today’s farmer, experience sharing by farmer’s clubs by other areas was done during the Melawa. Display and demonstration of modern machinery was done on that day. The farmers have been really motivated and the membership of the clubs has been increased overwhelmingly. The farmers have derived profit and at the same time looking at reviving farming in Porvorim. The concerns raised by the farmers clubs are also being taken up and we are trying our level best to sort out their problems which has been existing for the last minimum 10 – 15 yrs. The harvesting machine has been utilised by the farmers in the fields under Socorro Panchayat and Salvador-do-Mundo Panchyat.
